A lost animal can move into survival mode very quickly—even around people they know. Our job is to reduce pressure, collect reliable information and make each decision from the behaviour we can observe.

If an animal cannot be approached safely, we build trust around one predictable location. The trap, timing and setup are chosen for that animal—not from a one-size-fits-all formula.
Recovery continues after capture. We keep handling calm, check immediate welfare, support microchip identification and work toward a safe handover to the animal's legal family wherever possible.
Chasing, calling, whistling or crowding can push a frightened animal farther away and change an established movement pattern.

Our recovery plans are built around the animal's behaviour and environment. Remote cameras, feeding stations and humane traps allow us to reduce pressure and make decisions based on evidence.
Public interference can change an animal's movement pattern. If an active search is being managed, follow the instructions issued for that case and report sightings immediately.
