One Rescue Incorporated

Privacy policy and account deletion

Effective and last updated 21 August 2026

This policy explains how One Rescue Incorporated (ABN 90 250 259 319), the operator of the One Rescue website and One Rescue Live app, manages personal information. It applies when you use onerescue.org.au, One Rescue Live, submit a form, make a donation or payment, apply to adopt, volunteer, contact us, or take part in a rescue operation.

We aim to manage personal information transparently and consistently with applicable Australian privacy law, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles where they apply.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use our services, we may collect:

How we collect information

We usually collect information directly from you when you register, edit a profile, create content, send messages, report a sighting, use a location feature, join an event, submit an application, make a payment, or contact One Rescue. We may also receive relevant rescue, moderation or safety information from other members, volunteers, administrators, pet owners, witnesses or service providers.

You can browse much of the main website without identifying yourself. An email address and display name are required to create a One Rescue Live account, and information marked as required must be supplied to submit an adoption, donation or payment form.

How we use information

We use personal information where reasonably necessary to:

What other people can see

Your display name, role, optional suburb, biography, profile photo, membership date, posts, comments and attached post images form part of a public One Rescue Live profile and may be seen without signing in. Your registered email address and password information are not shown publicly.

Public-chat messages are visible to signed-in members. Private direct and group messages are visible to conversation participants. Authorised One Rescue administrators can review and remove public or private content when reasonably necessary for safety, moderation, member support or legal compliance. Do not use One Rescue Live for emergencies or highly sensitive information.

Rescue cases may show generalised locations to members. Exact case, sighting and volunteer check-in locations are restricted to authorised volunteers and administrators. Event coordinators and administrators may view volunteer names, account email addresses, attendance status and roster notes.

A donor name and amount are displayed on a fundraising supporter wall only when the donor actively chooses that option. It is not selected by default.

Service providers and disclosure

We disclose only the information reasonably needed for One Rescue's work and the operation of the service. Recipients may include:

Some service providers operate or store information outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries in which those providers maintain infrastructure. Privacy protections and legal requirements may differ between countries. We take reasonable steps to use reputable providers and limit the information supplied to what is needed for the service.

One Rescue does not sell personal information and does not use third-party advertising SDKs or behavioural advertising in One Rescue Live.

Cookies, offline access and device permissions

One Rescue Live uses an essential secure session cookie to keep a member signed in. The app also registers a service worker that stores the offline page, logo and app icons on the device. Push notifications are optional and are enabled only after browser or device permission is granted. You can turn them off at any time from Notifications in One Rescue Live or block them from your device settings. The in-app switch removes that device's active push subscription from our systems. We do not use our own non-essential advertising cookies or analytics cookies. Embedded providers and Stripe may use their own cookies or similar technology under their privacy terms.

Security

We use reasonable technical and administrative safeguards, including encrypted connections, role-based access, restricted administration, password hashing and secure session cookies. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password and report suspected unauthorised access promptly.

Retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected and for legitimate legal, accounting, safety, security and operational requirements. Community information is generally retained while an account is active. Adoption applications are retained while they are being assessed and for a reasonable period afterwards. Donation and payment records may be retained to meet receipt, taxation and accounting obligations. Deleted information may remain for a limited period in protected backups or security logs before routine expiry.

Delete your One Rescue Live account

Sign in to One Rescue Live, open Edit profile and photo, then select Delete my account. Enter your current password and type DELETE to confirm. The deletion cannot be undone.

This deletes your account, active sessions, profile, posts, comments, public-chat messages, your messages and membership in group chats, direct conversations involving your account, volunteer check-ins, event sign-ups, reactions, saved posts, follows, notifications, device push subscriptions, profile photo, post images and chat attachments from active systems. A group conversation may continue for its remaining members after your messages and membership are removed and ownership is transferred when needed. Operational records you created in an official role may be reassigned to an administrator so One Rescue can safely continue its work. Safety, legal, financial or backup records may be retained where reasonably required.

Administrator accounts cannot be self-deleted until organisational access has been transferred. If you cannot sign in, want an administrator account removed, or want to request deletion of other personal information, email info@onerescue.org.au with the subject “Account deletion request”. We may ask for reasonable identity verification before acting on a request.

Access, correction and privacy complaints

You can correct your One Rescue Live display name, suburb, biography and profile photo from Edit profile and photo. To ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of other personal information, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity and may decline or limit a request where permitted by law, explaining the reason where required.

To make a privacy complaint, include “Privacy complaint” in the subject and explain what happened. We will review the concern and respond. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may be able to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
